Screen time you don't have to feel bad about.

Hello Beam teaches 6–8-year-olds to count, recognise and write numbers, one small step at a time, with Beam the little signal lamp. No ads, no accounts, no tricks. And it stops when you say.

Grown-ups only. Just your email. Unsubscribe any time.

The Ten Train waits at a seaside platform, seven of its ten seats filled. Beam, a small lamp in a conductor's coat, holds a yellow flag.

What Hello Beam never does

We'd rather tell you what we won't do. You can check every one.

  • Never shows ads. Not one, ever.

  • Never asks for an account, an email, or your child's name.

  • Never sends anything off the tablet. Your child's progress stays on the device.

  • Never uses streaks, lives, timers on answers or loot boxes, and never says "come back tomorrow".

  • Never shows your child something to buy. There is nothing to buy in the app right now.

  • Never lets an AI chat with your child. Beam can't chat or listen. Everything Beam says is a fixed script, made into audio before release.

  • Never keeps your child playing. You choose the play time. When it's up, Hello Beam finishes the round and says goodbye. Beam never asks for one more.

  • Never makes a mistake feel bad. No "Wrong!", no buzzers. A hint, then another try.

One gentle path, from 1, 2, 3 to making ten

Your child rides the Ten Train along the Lighthouse Coast. The train has ten seats and leaves when they're all full. That simple rule carries the whole path.

  1. A short first-day check

Ticket Check takes 4 minutes or less. It finds the right starting point, so children who already know their numbers skip ahead, and children who don't start right at the beginning. It always ends on a success.

  2. Meet the numbers

Station Numbers shows each number before it asks for it: 1, 2, 3 first, then up to 20. Platform Count is about counting people one by one, and bringing the right number: "bring 7".

  3. See amounts at a glance

In Lighthouse Flash a few dots appear for a moment. Your child learns to see "three" without counting one by one.

  4. Build numbers on the train

All Aboard! uses the train's two rows of five to build and read numbers up to 10. It's a ten-frame, dressed up as a train.

  5. Write numbers with a finger

In Light the Numbers your child traces 0–9 by steering the lighthouse's beam, then writes them from memory in the sand. Any stroke order is fine.

  6. Make ten

Fill the Carriage: how many more to fill all ten seats? This is where number sense turns into the first real sums.

  • The difficulty adjusts by itself, so it stays just right.

  • Your child only sees games that are ready. Nothing is ever shown locked.

  • Every instruction is spoken, with captions. Made for children who are still learning to read.

Behind a grown-ups' gate you'll find the learning path page (every game, what it practises and when it opens), the play-time setting, and a reset button.

Why I built it

I'm a dad. I wanted my kids' tablet time to be something I felt good about, not something I had to police. The apps I tried were full of ads and upsells, or so busy they felt like slot machines with numbers on. I couldn't find a calm, step-by-step app in English for a child just starting to count, so I built one.

Hello Beam has a little lamp called Beam, a train with ten seats, and a path that starts at 1, 2, 3. It has no ads, no accounts, and it stops when you say. So far it's been tested by my own kids. I'd love yours to try it next.

Questions parents ask

Who is Hello Beam for?

Children aged 6 to 8 (US grades 1–2), and especially children who are just starting with numbers. The first-day check starts each child at the right place, from "what does 3 look like?" upward.

What does my child actually learn?

Recognising numbers to 20, counting to 20, seeing small amounts at a glance, building numbers on a ten-frame, writing 0–9, and making ten. You can see the whole path, and where your child is on it, in the parent area.

Is it really private?

Yes. The app has no accounts, no ads and no analytics, and it sends nothing anywhere. Your child's progress is saved only on the tablet. (Your device's own backup may include it, like other apps.) The only personal information this website asks for is the email you give us for the waitlist. Details: privacy notice (draft).

How long does my child play?

You choose: 5, 10, 15, 20 or 30 minutes (15 is the default). When time is up, Hello Beam finishes the round it's on, then Beam says goodbye. It never stops in the middle of a question, Beam never asks for one more, and nothing starts on its own.

If you'd like, you can allow one short extra round at goodbye in the parent area. It's off unless you switch it on.

What happens when my child gets something wrong?

Nothing bad. Beam gives a hint (look again, count together, or watch me) and your child tries again. There are no lives, no timers on answers, and no "Wrong!".

Is Beam's voice AI?

Beam's voice is computer-generated. The lines were written for Hello Beam and turned into audio once, before release. The app plays them from the tablet; nothing is generated while your child plays, and Beam can't chat or listen. Every line also has captions.

Which devices does it work on? Can we try it now?

Hello Beam is made for tablets held sideways: iPad and Android tablets. It is not in the stores yet. Right now it's being tested at home with my own kids; a few more families try it next. Join the waitlist and you'll hear first.

How much will it cost?

There will be a free part and a paid part, with no trial, so nothing turns into a charge. I'll put the prices on this page before anything is in the store.

Can two children share one tablet?

Not yet. Today Hello Beam keeps one child's path per tablet.

Who makes Hello Beam?

Me, Artem, a dad of two who wanted calm screen time for my own kids. Questions go straight to me: hello@playhellobeam.com.
