Privacy notice for playhellobeam.com
Status: draft, pending legal review. Last updated: [date]
Who we are: [Legal entity name], the maker of Hello Beam, [postal address]. Contact: hello@playhellobeam.com
This notice covers this website and the waitlist only. The Hello Beam app has its own privacy policy [link when published].
The short version
- This website is for grown-ups. Hello Beam the app is for children; this site is not.
- The only personal information we ask for here is the email address you choose to give us for the waitlist.
- We use it to send you Hello Beam news. We never sell it, rent it or share it for anyone's marketing.
- You can unsubscribe from any email, and ask us to delete your email any time.
- We don't use advertising, tracking cookies or tracking pixels.
1. What we collect
If you join the waitlist: your email address, and the date you signed up and confirmed. That's all. We don't ask for your name, your child's name, age or anything else about your child.
If you email us: your email address and what you write. We use it only to reply.
When anyone visits the site: like every website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) receives technical information needed to deliver the page, such as your IP address and browser type, and may keep it in short-lived server logs for security. We don't use these logs to identify you. We count visits only with our host's built-in traffic totals (no script, no cookie), such as how many visits a page had per day and country. We don't see who visited.
Cookies: this site sets no cookies. [If the live-site check finds a strictly necessary cookie, such as Cloudflare's security cookie __cf_bm, list it here with its purpose and lifetime.]
What we don't collect: no advertising or tracking cookies, no tracking pixels, no social-media plugins, and no fonts or scripts loaded from other companies' servers.
2. Why we use it (and our legal basis)
- To send you the emails you asked for: Hello Beam news, the launch, and an occasional note from the founder. Basis: your consent, given when you sign up and confirm by email. You can withdraw it any time by unsubscribing.
- To reply when you write to us. Basis: our legitimate interest in answering you.
- To keep the site secure. Basis: legitimate interest.
We don't use your email for automated decisions or profiling, and we don't combine it with other data.
3. Who else handles it
We use a small number of service providers who process data only on our instructions:
| Provider | What for | Data |
|---|---|---|
| Buttondown | Receiving the sign-up form and sending the waitlist emails | Your email, sign-up and confirmation dates, and the technical details your browser sends when you press "Join" (such as your IP address). Open and click tracking are off. |
| Cloudflare | Hosting the website | Technical request data (section 1) |
| Zoho Mail | Receiving and answering your emails | Your email and message |
| Cloudflare Access (testers only) | Sign-in code for the private test version | Your email, sign-in time, IP address |
Some of these providers are in the United States. If you are in the UK or EU, your data may be transferred there under the provider's safeguards [name the transfer basis once confirmed in each provider's DPA].
We never sell or share personal information for advertising ("sell" and "share" as defined by California law).
4. How long we keep it
- Waitlist email: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. If you never confirm your sign-up, we delete it within [30] days.
- Emails you send us: as long as needed to help you, then deleted within [12] months.
- Hosting logs: [Cloudflare's stated retention].
4a. If you help us test
If you volunteer as a test family, we handle your details as described in the tester information sheet you receive before agreeing: your first name, email, US state and short answers about your child's age band and tablet, kept in the founder's inbox and deleted 90 days after your last session (only your email is kept longer, to send your thank-you code). Session notes use a code, never your child's name, and we never record video, audio or photos of your child.
5. Children
This website is for adults (18+). We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Please don't let a child sign up. If you think a child has given us their email, write to hello@playhellobeam.com and we will delete it promptly.
The Hello Beam app collects no personal information from children; see the separate app privacy policy [link].
6. Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe: use the link at the bottom of any email.
- See, correct or delete your data: email hello@playhellobeam.com. We'll answer within [30] days. We don't need more than your email address to find your data.
- If you're in the UK or EU, you also have the rights to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to complain to your data protection authority (UK: the ICO).
- If you're in California or another US state with a privacy law, you have the right to know, delete and correct, and we don't sell or share your data.
We will not treat you differently for using any of these rights.
7. Security
We keep the list in the newsletter tool only, protected by a strong password and two-factor sign-in, and we don't copy it elsewhere. No system is perfect; if something ever went wrong, we'd tell you as the law requires.
8. Changes
If we change this notice, we'll update the date at the top. If a change matters (for example, a new kind of data), we'll email the waitlist before it takes effect.
